ACCESSIBLE KITCHEN

ADA enjoyable.

It was a tiny little bungalow with big home dreams. With accessibility on the top of the priority list, two major walls came down to make a small, tight kitchen with little storage and no sunlight turn into a grand open concept kitchen where all who reside can function with ease.

Modification Highlights:

  • Removal of two load bearing walls. Luckily we were able to tuck the beams up into the ceiling to create a continuous ceiling, really emphasizing the open-concept kitchen and great room

  • Shallowing of the front hall closet. By moving the wall and door back, we created a typical 24"d typical coat closet and allocated more space to the front entry - an always challenging access point.

ADA features incorporated:

  • Specialty ADA shallow sink with custom cabinetry apron

  • Pedestal dining peninsula so all seats are available

  • Extra wide aisleways to allow for full turning radius

  • Microwave drawer incorporated into the island

  • Handles on all cabinetry

  • Minimal upper cabinetry

  • Continuous flooring throughout to minimize rolling barriers
